Actor, Film Producer. Born in San Diego, California, his first foray into acting came after his discharge from the United States Air Force. His initial roles featured him dubbing Italian director Roberto Rossellini's neorealist films into the English language. Ward's first major American film saw him acting opposite Clint Eastwood in 1979's "Escape From Alcatraz." Subsequent roles from that period include playing astronaut Gus Grissom in 1983's "The Right Stuff" and the eponymous assassin Remo Williams in 1985's "Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins." Perhaps his most recognizable role came in 1990 when he starred alongside Kevin Bacon in the science fiction film "Tremors." He reprised his character, Earl Bassett in the film's sequel, "Tremors 2: Aftershocks" (1996). Other roles of note include his portrayal of the American novelist Henry Miller in the 1990 biopic "Henry & June"; the lead Stuart Kane in 1993's "Short Cuts"; and the father of the female lead (Reese Witherspoon) in 2002's "Sweet Home Alabama." In addition to his characters on the big screen, he featured in a number of television series, including "Grey's Anatomy" and "ER."
