HIGH POINT - Mary Minor Maclin Aderholdt, 82, of The Piedmont Center, Thomasville, died Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, at High Point Regional Hospital, following a brief illness.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the sanctuary of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 1225 Chestnut Drive, with Dr. Charles Wilson II, the Rev. Barry Osborne, Mrs. Sarah Woollen and the Rev. Timothy Gamelin officiating.

A native of Morgantown, W.Va., she was born on Sept. 29, 1921, to Edward Silver Maclin and Anne Eliza Luttrell. Her mother died when she was six years old and her father subsequently married Pauline Richardson Spangler. She was preceded in death by her brother, Edward Luttrell Maclin. Mrs. Aderholdt attended West Virginia Institute of Technology and received a bachelors degree in home economics from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, in 1942. Prior to her marriage, she was employed in the home furnishings division of Hutzler Brothers in Baltimore, Md. On March 25, 1944, she married Dr. Marcus Lafayette Aderholdt Jr., who survives of the home. Following World War II and Dr. Aderholdts pediatric training at Baptist Hospital of Wake Forest University Medical Center in Winston-Salem, she moved with him to High Point in 1948.

For 50 years, she devoted herself to Dr. Aderholdts practice and the local community. She served as president of both the High Point Medical Auxiliary and the High Point Community Concert Association. She was chairwoman of the church council at Emmanuel Lutheran Church during the construction of their new sanctuary on Heathcliff Road. For countless years, she drove and delivered hot meals for the homebound for Meals on Wheels. She and Dr. Aderholdt have been active supporters of the arts in the Piedmont Triad including the Eastern Music Festival, Greensboro Symphony, N.C. Shakespeare Festival and the Theatre Art Galleries.

Mary Minor Aderholdt will be remembered by hundreds of childrens parents with whom she talked when taking phone messages for Dr. Aderholdt. She supported wholeheartedly his work with student athletes in the High Point City schools, including Friday night high school football games. She was devoted to his work with the Guilford County Health Department, the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club and the United Way of High Point. Moreover, she supported his beloved Carolina Tarheels in football and basketball, winning or losing, for almost 60 years.

As the mother of five children, she was active in the High Point City Schools PTA for 24 years, the YMCA and YWCA, the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts and camped and hiked throughout the Blue Ridge Mountains with her family for many years.

She is survived by three daughters, Carol Minor Aderholdt Harris of High Point, Sarah Winston Aderholdt of Silver Springs, Md., Laura Anna Aderholdt Roberts and husband Michael of Bethesda, Md.; and two sons, William Maclin Aderholdt and wife Mary of Miami, Fla., and John Marcus Aderholdt of Greensboro; six grandchildren, Anthony Harris, Mary Carol Harris, Lauren Elizabeth Aderholdt, William Marcus Aderholdt, Carl Edward Roberts and Alan Marcus Roberts.

Visitation will be in the Asbury Room following the service and other times at her daughters home.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, the American Red Cross, Emmanuel Lutheran Church, High Point Community Concert Association, High Point Community Foundation, High Point Regional Health System Endowment, Meals on Wheels, the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club or Wesley United Methodist Church.
