Major Clifford J. Asby, was the uncle I never knew, he died before I was born, but my parents made sure I knew what an honorable man he is. He was born to Jewell & Clifford J. Asby, (both deceased) in Redfork, Oklahoma in 1922, along with his brother's Basil in 1924 and my Father Billy in 1926. My uncle Clifford, proudly served in WWII and Korea ARCOM war conflict in the United States Army. He rose to Major and my Father told me he was to be promoted to Lieutenant Colonel. He was a man of honor and very patriotic. He took his family to live in Japan for a short time and the beautiful rose china he bought his Mother, my Grandma Jewell while in Japan, sets in my china cabinet. At the time of his death, he was in Turkey on an assignment with NATO (North America Treaty Orgainzation), when he had a heart attack on the stairs to the American Embassy in Istanbul and passed away on the way to the military hospital. My Father told me that Uncle Clifford told him if anything was to happen to him, he requested to be buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia, (Washington DC). But my Father just could'nt do it, (I wished he had), but he loved him to much to be buried much to far away. When I am in Washington, DC, I visit the WWII, Vietnam and Korea Memorials and Arlington Cemetery. My uncle is buried next to his wife, Clara L. Asby, my aunt, that passed away June 26, 1963. They are TOGETHER FOREVER.
