Actress and opera singer. She was acclaimed by rulers, kings and European critics. She resigned her glittering career to marry to Marcelo Torcuato de Alvear, who later became President of the Argentine Republic (1922 to 1928). She was despised by the oligarchy of Buenos Aires, who condemned her past as an actress.
