ANDERSON - Late Thursday evening, Aaron Daniel Anderson, 30, broke into the great beyond, ending a three-year encounter with brain cancer. He died embraced in the love of his family: his parents, Ed and Rosemary and his sisters, Gillian and Zoë. Aaron attended Grand Rapids City High School, but received an International Baccalaureate (IB) from the United World College USA in Montezuma, New Mexico, and a BA in Psychology and South Asian Studies at the University of Michigan. He was in his second year of a PhD program in Developmental Psychology at Stanford University when he was diagnosed with glioblastoma in June 2008. To his parents, Aaron was still a child and a mystery, and they stand in awe as they discover the extent of his influence in this world -- as a fun-loving friend, a mentor, a DJ with a deep knowledge of Funk and Soul music with a record collection to match, a break dancer who could mesmerize children and bring a smile to friends around the world. Aside from collecting vinyl records, Aaron's greatest love as a practicing Buddhist was in leading groups of teen-agers on cultural tours of Tibet with his friends at "Where There Be Dragons". These wonderful friends, and those from UWC and City High School meant everything to him, and they have responded to his illness with the most amazing poetry and love: Aaron Anderson. Of kora-ing cats and whispering dakinis, You have always been and will be. A living witness to the greater mysteries, Ever pulling on our strings. (Thank you Christina) These loving spirits have flowed as a cool river stream through him and his family for the past three years. Thank you all. A private memorial service will be held on November 5, 2011 at Fountain Street Church. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Neurofibromatosis Network, 213 S. Wheaton Ave., Wheaton, IL 60187, www.nfnetwork.org. The family is being served by: Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Service
