William "Roy" Hammond went to his heavenly home on April 16, 2022, at the age of 74. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 22, 2022, from 6:00 and 7:00 at Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home in Wichita Falls, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, April 23, 2022, at Faith Village Church of Christ in Wichita Falls, Texas. Internment will follow the service at 1:00 PM in Crestview Cemetery..
Roy was the son of Jack and Martha (Favor) Hammond. He attended Fain Elementary and Kemper Military Academy in Boonville, Missouri through high school and college. Roy and Laura Henry were married on December 6, 1985.
Roy spent most of his adult life serving as the Vice-President and working for the family business, Lone Star Tool through 1994. Lone Star Tool was founded by his grandfather in 1913 and was one of the oldest oilfield manufacturing companies in Texas. He and Laura owned Gourmet Thyme for several years. After retirement he owned and operated HAMCO Sharpening Service.
He was an active member of The Mavericks of Wichita Falls for forty plus years and served multiple years on the Board of Directors. He was a member of the Red River Orchid Society and the Oklahoma Orchid Society. He was also a member of the American Kite Fliers Association.
Roy was a passionate grower of peppers, orchids, plumeria's and bonsai trees. He loved spending time in his greenhouse and sharing his flowers and plants with family and many friends. He was also a great chef. He loved cooking and preparing meals for others. He loved the lake and the outdoors. He had a servant's heart and was a man of strong character which was apparent in everything he did and his relationships.
He was preceded in death by wife of 37 years, Laura Hammond, son; Matt Hammond and his parents: Martha Hammond and Jack Hammond and brother-in-law James Giles.
Roy is survived by his daughter, Ashley Hammond of Wichita Falls, Texas. Grandchildren; Lennon Tucker and Gemma Tucker. Sister; Suellen Hogue and husband Bob of Heath, Texas. Brother; Jeff Hammond of Houston, Texas. Sisters-in-law; Kristy Towery, Trudy Thompson and Cindy Giles, all of Burkburnett, Texas; Judy Dillon and husband Richard of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Nephews and Nieces; Lane Hammond, Cayle Hammond, Kellie Hogue, Joel Adams, Lorie Davis, Brad Harrell, Brady Giles and Dusty Thompson. Great Nephews and Great Nieces; Lane Harrell, Lexi Harrell, Faith Horn, Harley Adams, Shelby Sanders and Kynli Thompson, Colby Doest, Jacob Doest, Lindsey Johnston and Ethan Davis.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: The Mavericks of Wichita Falls, Mike Elyea, Don Hupp and Bill Parker.
