Thelma Geneva (Bakke) Barnick,93 was born February 6, 1929 to Elmer and Tilda (Bue) Bakke in McVille, North Dakota. After graduating from McVille high school, she attended Mayville State College where she received her teaching degree in music and business. While at Mayville College she was a soloist in the choir and throughout her adult life continued to sing for weddings and funerals. She married Leroy Barnick on June 26, 1955 at Sheyenne Lutheran and they have celebrated 66 years together. After their wedding, they lived at Fort Sill, Oklahoma for 10 months where Leroy was stationed with the US Army. They then returned to the family farm, rural Jud, ND. The couple farmed together and were blessed with four children.
She was preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Tilda Bakke, father and mother-in-law, Harvey (Freda) Barnick, brother Elmer, sister-in-law Rosanne Bird, brother-in-law Wayne Bird.
