Hilbert K Steigerwalt 84,of West Lehighton,passed away on January 8,2008 in Blue Mountain Health System Gnaden Huetten Campus.He was the husband of Joan N(Rex) Steigerwalt.They were married for 25 years on August 28,2007.Born in Andreas,he was the son of the late Irvin E and Mabel A (Hartman) Steigerwalt.After graduatingfrom Lehighton High School,he attended drafting and airplane machine mechanic school.He served his country in the Army during World War 11 as a light machine gunner and was involved with three invasios,Tunisia,Sicily and Normandy.He served n the Battle of the Bulge,Omaha Beach and was a Prisoner of War in Africa in 1943.He was the recipient of a Purple Heart Medel,two Bronze Stars and the Combat Infantrymans Badge.He was employed by Petersons Seafood as a salesman and later worked for Harold Stephens and for the Ovsak Funeral Home.He was a member of Ben Salem Church where he served as deacon and elder.He was active for many years with the parish choir.He served as secretary/treasurer of the joint parish for 23 years.Survivors;Wife,Joan N; daugher Nadine Hausman of Slatington,Brother Bruce and his wife Joce of Gillett,Bradford County,Four sisters Elaine wife of Franklin Bup Sowers and Phyllis Kobal of Andreas,Janice Jlech of New Ringgold and Mae Womer of Md.He was preceded in death by three brothers.
Hlbert will be buried with full Military Honors uder the directions of the Lehighton Area U.V.O.
