He immigrated to Canada from Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England to Nova Scotia and married Maria D King. on 19 Dec 1826 at St. Paul's Church, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. They had six children John Edward, William Charles, Robert Henry, twins Eliza Jand and Mary E and lastly Margaret Elizabeth. He was a Blacksmith by trade.
