Musicologist, Composer. Born in Valencia, López-Chavarri was considered an outstanding Spanish musical critic and musician of the 20th Century. He began his career as a journalist. In the early 20s, he founded the Orquesta Valenciana de Cámara and was a professor of music history and aesthetics at the Conservatorio Superior de Música. López-Chavarri then became the musical critic of the newspaper "Las Provincias." As a musicologist, López-Chavarri was a researcher of the roots of Spanish music, wich he reflected in his books "Historia de la Música" and "L'Obra del Cançoner Popular de Catalunya." He also was a prolific composer best known for his work for choir and orchestra and piano, such as "Acuarelas Valencianas," "Llegenda" and "Concierto Hispánico." An accomplished travel writer, his many books include "De l'Horta i de la Muntanya," "Proses de Viatge" and "Viatge al Magreb." He was married with opera singer Carmen Andújar.
