BURR OAK, Mich. - Ralph "Joe" D. Shears, 56, of 62348 Middle Colon Road, died at his home Friday of an accidental shooting, according to Dr. John Robertson, St. Joseph County medical examiner. Mr. Shears was employed by Midwest Plastics of Sturgis. He was born Dec. 18, 1938, in Fremont, Mich., and spent most of his life in the Burr Oak area. On June 15, 1957, in Bronson, Mich., he married Thelma Closson. She survives with a daughter, Penny Johnson of Mongo; two sons, Jeffrey of Sturgis and Terry of Burr Oak; two grandchildren; two sisters, Carole Woods of Sturgis and Lorna Stahl of Constantine.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Rosenberg-Schipper Funeral Home. Burial will be in Burr Oak Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today and from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.
