The following information has been compiled by myself, Jane Gilbert, a third great granddaughter, after doing extensive research on Henry and his wife Sarah "Sallie" Griffin. I felt it was important to put this information here to make sure it can be shared freely with descendants. This will be a work in progress as I learn more, especially based on DNA findings.
--------------
There are scant records of Henry Russell in Williamson County, Tennessee beyond census records. A visit to Williamson County looking for a will or estate records was fruitless. He is no doubt buried there, perhaps on his land, but no burial record or stone has be found. It is also not known whether his wife Sallie was buried with him or in Giles County, TN where she almost certainly died.

A male descendant of Henry via his son James has taken the Y-DNA test at Family Tree DNA, and has matched other Russell men. Kit Number 573274 represents Henry, and the kit is placed in Haplogroup I2a1b1 - Lineage 01 in the Y results table of the Russell project: https://www.familytreedna.com/public/russell?iframe=yresults

Most of what is known about Henry is from Sallie's War of 1812 pension application which is freely available from a variety of sources. It provides the following information:

- The application was made on May 12, 1879. Sallie is stated to be 82 years old.

- Henry was born in Virginia and was aged about 30 when he enlisted in the Tenn. Militia in 1812. (The 1850 census indicates he was born about 1775.)

- Henry was about 5' 10" with dark hair and dark blue eyes.

- He and Sallie were married March 25, 1816 in Carthage, Smith Co., TN and neither had been married previously.

- He died on Sept. 12, 1854 in Williamson Co., TN.

- Their cited children were: George W., Johnathan, Benjamin, Polly, Henry, James W., Eddy W., Elijah, Lureny, and Eliza.

---------------------
What follows is additional information on who some of the above children were based mainly on DNA evidence. Only son James W. can conclusively be tied to Henry and Sallie by a paper trail, as Sallie was living with him in the 1870 and 1880 census in Giles Co., TN.

- George W. : Strong DNA matches indicate George was George Washington Russell who married Elizabeth Cromer in 1842 and then Eliza Percy in 1847. He would eventually settle in Simpson Co., KY.

- Johnathan: Strong DNA matches indicate he was the John Farmer Russell who married Rozetta Sledge in Marshall Co., TN in 1843 and then Arzilla Jackson in 1860 in Jefferson Co., IL.

- Henry : A small number of DNA matches indicate this Henry was John H. Russell who settled in Mississippi. In the 1860 census, John H. is indicated to have been born in Tennessee, then for some reason, in the 1870 and 1880 census, New York is given as his birthplace. The DNA matches are through his son Mack.

- James W.: James is conclusively the James W. Russell who married Elizabeth Hall in 1847 in Williamson County and settled in Giles County, TN. Mother Sallie was living with him and his family in 1870 and 1880, and they aided her in submitting the War of 1812 pension application.

- Elijah: There are slight DNA indications that he may be the Elisha M. Russell who married Isabel Hayes, the latter of whom can be found in Monroe Co., KY. His name is given on the death certificates of Isabel Hayes, but he's not found in other records (to date)

- Lureny: Very strong DNA evidence indicates Lureny was Lurena Russell who married James Hood in 1855 in Rutherford Co., TN and then Benjamin Jackson in 1872 in Dickson Co., TN.
