Per an article titled "Selections from the Autobiography of John Gage" in The Vineland Historical Magazine, Volumes 7-9 (Pages 182 & 183): "An active, useful and long life was brought to its close, when, on December 29, 1890, John Gage died, his remains, in accordance with his wishes, being cremated. Thirteen years later the ashes were lovingly placed in the coffin beside the body of his wife, when she slipped away to join him in 'The Other Room'" .
