David William Barber died after a heart attack on February 5, 2022. Born June 7, 1938 in Fowler, California to John and Elizabeth Barber of Caruthers, California. David was a lifelong resident of the Caruthers area and a proud supporter of the Blue Raiders.

David is survived by the love of his life Velma and his children Gary Barber and Karen Hooven as well as Nancy Klassen and Mark Hooven; beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother Charles Barber and his wife Shirley; brothers and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.

David was a loved and respected educator for over 40 years in the west side schools. He remained active in community service his entire life serving in many roles.

A celebration of life will be held at the Caruthers Fairgrounds, 13599 S. Raider Avenue, on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 11 a.m. Lunch will be served.

In lieu of flowers, the family has set up the David Barber Scholarship Fund to award a scholarship to a Caruthers High School student who is active within the community. Donations can be made to David Barber Scholarship Fund, PO Box 545, Caruthers, CA 93609.
