Gunner Dion joined the military in January 2005 and was on his first overseas deployment. He is remembered as a warm and friendly soldier who was respected for his dedication and hard work. He is survived by his mother Lise Marcil and stepfather Raymond Pelletier, sister Guylaine, stepbrothers Benoît and Marc-André, grandmother Lucille Charbonneau, and extended family.
Seventy-four soldiers and one diplomat have now died since Canada first sent troops to Afghanistan in 2002.
