Mary was born in Chester Le Street, County Durham, England in 1854. In May 1862, when Mary was eight years old, she moved to Australia, landing in Victoria on a ship called 'Star of Brunswick'. She was an unassisted migrant travelling with her ten year old brother Leonard (1851-1934, grave located at Melbourne cemetery).
Although their parents were Robert Milburn and Matilda nee Morgan, the two children were not travelling with their parents. Rather, a 60 year old woman by the name of Mary Milburn was with them.
A Matilda Milburn died in the same place where Mary and Leonard were born, Chester Le Street, County Durham, in the June quarter of 1856. Maybe this is Mary and Leonard's mum. If so, then Matilda died aged 25 (1831-1856), when Mary was two years old and Leonard four.
Also, there is a Robert Milburn (1830-1890) at Bendigo cemetery, whose father's name was Leonard. If you read Robert's page, the 60 year old Mary on the ship with the children may have been Robert's mum Mary, and therefore the paternal grandmother to John's mum Mary and her brother Leonard who landed here in 1862. And a Robert Milburn matching the age of Mary's dad Robert Milburn migrated to Victoria by himself as an unassisted migrant. He was on board a ship called 'White Star' and landed in November 1956, five months at most after his wife's death. If this Robert is Mary and Leonard's dad, then it looks like he left his two children in England for six years after their mum died in 1856, before they followed him over in 1862.
