Lota Delgado was born on May 19, 1921 at Camp Strosenburg in Angeles in the Philippine province of Pampanga. Her parents were Luis Delgado and Caridad Concepcion. Brother Ben Delgado also became an actor. Delgado's career as an actress took off by accident. She was introduced to Pedro Vera, the boss of Sampaguita Pictures, at an anti-tuberculosis gala, where she was required to attend because of her work as a secretary. He asked her if she was interested in a career as an actress. She initially refused, but went to work at Sampaguita's office. There she was persuaded by director Gregorio Fernandez and actor Rogelio de la Rosa to do a screen test.
She then played a part in the film Magsasampaguita (1938), starring Corazon Noble and Rogelio de la Rosa in the lead roles. The following year, a role in Takip-Silim (1939) with Carmen Rosales and again De la Rosa in the lead roles. Her performance in the two films was well received. This accelerated her career. In 1940, she played roles in five Sampaguita films. In the film Katarungan she played her first lead role, with De la Rosa as an opponent. In 1941 she played roles in Tarhata by Sampaguita and in Dalawang Anino by the film company RDR Productions, founded by De la Rosa.
The outbreak of World War II interrupted her career. Rogelio de la Rosa proposed to her shortly afterwards, after which the couple married on September 20, 1942. Delgado then decided to stop her acting work. She had six children, five boys and a girl. In 1951, she starred in a movie called Irisan once more when her husband revived RDR Productions. Later, De la Rosa was elected to the Philippine Senate and was ambassador to Cambodia and the Netherlands.
Lota Delgado passed away in 2009 at the age of 87.
