Funeral services for former Sheridan resident Henry E. "Abe" Abderhalden of Crooked River Ranch will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, at Newberg Christian Church. The Rev. David Case will officiate.
Visitation is scheduled for noon to 7 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 18-19, in the chapel of Macy & Son Funeral Directors. Interment will be conducted at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Abderhalden died at home on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007. He was 69.
Born in Sheridan on March 24, 1938, he was the son of Henry and Alta (Huntley) Abderhalden. He moved to Newberg in the 1950s. He signed up for military service at 17, while still in high school.
After graduating, he spent four years in the Navy. Then he attended Chemeketa Community College for two years, earning a degree in mechanical engineering.
He worked for Consolidated Metco in Portland for 14 years, then began selling real estate field. He wrapped up his career working as a property appraiser in Newport from 1993 to 2004.
He married Eileen Vandehey on Nov. 17, 2004, in Newberg, and they established a retirement residence in Central Oregon's Crooked River Ranch.
He was a former member of the Elks and Moose clubs. His enjoyed fishing, hunting and woodworking.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Abderhalden is survived by a brother, Frank of St. Paul, and a sister, Edith Rich of Astoria.
