Donald Francis Acton, 77, died at 11:19 a.m. Saturday at Daviess Community Hospital.

Born June 15, 1930, in Loogootee, he was the son of Wilfred and Lucille (Borders) Acton.

A graduate of Loogootee High School, he had attended Culver Summer Naval School and was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

He was a retired food service purchaser and had bartended at the Loogootee Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a national champion skeet shooter and a member of St. John Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the American Legion, all of Loogootee.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Kenneth and Cynthia Deal of Mooresville; a sister, Alice Strange of Loogootee; two granddaughters, Heather Bauer and her husband, David, of Fishers, Jessica Hauger and her fiancé, Michael Cooper, of Camby; three great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Samuel and Andrew Bauer; and several nieces and nephews with a special thanks to his niece Donna and her husband Royden Graber of Loogootee.

His companion, Carol Wikle; his parents; two sisters, Doris Risacher and Virginia Love; and a brother, Vernon Acton are deceased.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Catholic Church in Loogootee. Burial will be in St. John Catholic Cemetery with graveside rites conducted by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Brocksmith Funeral Home with a Knights of Columbus memorial service at 6:30 p.m.
