Gertrude Marie Newland, 95, of McGuffey died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, at
Hardin Hills Health Center in Kenton.
She was a homemaker and a member of the McGuffey Church of Christ.
She was born March 24, 1905, in Hardin County to the late William and Della
Kissling Carmean and was predeceased by three sons, Melvin, Raymond and
William Newland; five brothers; and three sisters. She married Ora Melvin
Newland Jan. 19, 1924, and he died Feb. 27, 1990.
She is survived by two sons, Ora (Phyllys) Newland Jr. of Mount Victory and
Leonard Earl (Paula) Newland of Lima; three daughters, Helen Ellis of
Kenton, Dorothy (Fred) Brehm of Raymond and Karen (Eldon) Staley of Ada; 16
grandchildren; 29 great-great-grandchildren; nine
great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Howard Carmean of Florida; and two
sisters-in-law, Betty Joe Carmean of Lima and Micky Carmean of McGuffey.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Hanson-Neely
Funeral Home in Alger. Chaplain Roger Brown will officiate and burial will
be at the Preston Cemetery in Alger. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to
8 p.m. Sunday and prior to the services Monday.
