Clarence Aarestad, 68, of Cumberland died Aug. 26, at Lakeview Medical Center in Rice Lake.
Mr. Aarestad was born Oct. 24, 1931 to Oswald and Lizzie (Engen) Aarestad in North Dakota. He grew up there and served in the Marine Corps during the Korean conflict. Mr. Aarestad was a butcher. He moved to Minneapolis in 1962, married Faith Guffey in South Dakota on Nov. 29, 1972 and moved to Cumberland in 1973. He worked at the Holiday Store there until his retirement in 1991. Mr. Aarestad then processed deer at his home. He was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed helping others.
He is survived by his wife, Faith; two sons, Boyd of Cumberland and Alan of Elk River, Minn.; two daughters, Carol Neumann of Champlin, Minn., and Wanda Maranowicz of Birchwood; a stepson, Randy Guffey of Champlin; a stepdaughter, Elaine Evens of Blaine, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four brothers, Arthur, Leonard, Donald and Willard, all of Elk River; a sister, Lillie Lyrek of Elk River; and his mother-in-law, Ione DeVore of Cumberland.
Mr. Aarestad was preceded in death by a grandson.
