Sarah was born in Holmes City, Minnesota. Her parents were Gulbjor and Ole Larson of Norway.
She had five sisters, and two brothers: Martin Lauritz, Oline Maria (Mary), Olive, Lena, Mathea (Annie), Olaus, and Christine. Also half-brothers, Lars and Ole O. Hovde.
She married Robert James Foster in 1901 and they moved to Scandia Township, where the homesteaded near Souris, ND. They had six children: Grace Elizabeth (Mrs Carl H. Grosse) was a teacher; Robert Samuel remained on the farm; Wilfred Howard was a retired army man; Elmore Yocum, a meat cutter by trade, served in the Navy; Verne Ovid was a deputy sheriff in Washington; and Mable Luella (Mrs. Donald Smith) of Souris.
