Obituary is from the Storke Funeral Home (King George, Va.) website, posted November 27, 2021:

A strong man with a big heart, George Tompkins had never met a stranger. He was the type of man who would selflessly help others before thinking of himself. A man of great resolve, he often found himself as an invaluable asset to those around him. With an unrivaled work ethic and technical approach to his convictions his presence had somewhat of a gravitational pull. You just felt comfortable to be close to him. On the 24th day of November, George was reunited with his parents in Heaven after a long bout with cancer. Growing up in Fort Washington, MD, George was raised by his Mother, Dorothy and his Father, George and he remained on the family property until his retirement. He learned discipline and the value of being prudent from his Father and he learned compassion and consideration from his Mother and it was these values that made George a noteworthy character. No matter what George's interests were at the time, whether it was hunting, fishing, trapping, wrenching on cars, or his trade as a pipe welder, he did it with passion and sought the challenge of perfection at any task presented to him. He found himself great at just about anything he decided to give his attention to. His unconscious ability to accomplish seemingly impossible tasks resulted in him being a topic of conversation and admiration to all those around him, even when not in his presence. He was married to his mutual love at first sight and sweetheart, Patricia in 1971 and they remained lifelong partners throughout his journey. During this 50-year matrimony, they had two daughters (Sherri and Shannon). Those two daughters gave him five grandchildren (Kameron, Lynzi, George, Molly, and Marty). George will be remembered for many things by those around him. He will be remembered for his ability to help, his ability to teach, his ability to do whatever he set his mind to, and his ability to love. On this sad day in November, George will be gravely missed by those he touched. However, the memories of George's life work will be celebrated for generations. They say a man should let his work speak for him and we are left with a voice that will be heard eternally. The viewing will be held at Storke Funeral home in King George on Monday, November 29th from 6PM to 8PM. The funeral service will be given at Historyland Memorial Park on Tuesday, November 30th at 11AM.
