Dr. Mahaffey
earned his college degrees at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale; which was approximately an hour from his home in Eldorado, IL. He served in a dual role of School Principal and Sixth Grade Teacher at Jefferson Elementary School
full time, while raising three daughters with Norma Jean and studying/driving to Carbondale for years to fulfill the requirements of his degrees. In addition to being extremely motivated and intelligent, he was extremely positive, encouraging his students to achieve great things. He believed that children were capable of comprehending and achieving well above their age levels and successfully taught Freshman College Algebra to sixth graders at Jefferson, to test his hypothesis.
He was the type of role model and teacher that all children need, and he continues to inspire the students who were fortunate enough to be entrusted to his care.
