Elsie Maud was born to Florence (Lakes) and Joseph Horacio Bird. She was their fourth of five children. Florence, Rosetta, Edna, Elsie and Joseph Alexander. She was raised in the City of London and attended St Luke's Parochial School from the age of 2 1/2 years old. She married Thomas McCarthy on the 3rd of September 1938. They had three children. Joseph Anthony, David John and Edna Jane (Brown). Thomas and Elsie immigrated to Canada after WWII and finally settled in Detroit Michigan USA Elsie was a professional dressmaker by trade. She was a hard working devoted wife, mother, and grandmother to 10 grandchildren. All her life she was made clothes and did alterations as a way of contributing to the family income. She was years ahead of her time. We love and miss her every day.
