April 15, 2017:

Leonard "Moose" William Bruns, age 93, completed his earthly journey on April 15, 2017.

Leonard was born Jamuary 3, 1924, in St. Charles, Missouri, the son of Edwin and Martha (Wallenbrock) Bruns.

Leonard resided with his wife and their two children for sixty years before moving to Fulton in 1987.

As a young adult, Leonard joined the Army when the United States entered into World War 11. He went to Signal Corps and deployed to Europe where he participated in both the "trial run for D-Day, Excercise Tiger and D-Day landing at Utah Beach. He contributed in the service through the end of the war and was discharged in 1946. Leonard contrinued his work in communications field when he joined Southwestern Bell Telephone Company.

In the summer of 1946, he accompanied his uncle to a thrashing show in Montgomery County, Missouri renewing his interest and desire to be around steam engines and separators. Leonard has attended a minimum of one show a year (more often three shows) since 1946. He had steam in his "blood" and passed that love of steam engines along to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

As an olny child, Leonard was preceded in death by his parents.

Leonard is survived by his wife of sixty years, Betty; one son, Leonard "Red"Bruns (Debbie) of Fulton, Missouri; daughter, Valarie Brantley (Flake) of Weaverville, North Carolina; grandchildren, Shawna (Mike Soptick) of Fulton, Missouri; Chris (Sara) of Holts Summit, Missouri; great-grandchildren, Kaiden, Zane and Rylie.

Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00pm Thursday, April 20, 2017, at Debo Funeral Home in Fulton. Services with Military Honors will be held 2:00pm Sunday, April 30, 2017 at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Fulton.
