Houghton Lake High School graduate Patrick R. Samel, 20, died June 9, 2002, in North Carolina from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
Visitation is from 3 to 7 p.m. June 16, at the Christler Funeral Home Houghton Lake Chapel. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday with Kathy Murphy officiating.
Mr. Samel was born in Warren, MI, Jan. 13, 1982 the son of Kenneth and Cindy (Yakima) Samel, Jr. He moved to Houghton Lake in 1992.
He was an Airman 1st Class with the U. S. Air Force and was named Airman of the Year in 2002. He graduated from Houghton Lake High School with the Class of 2000. He played Gus Macker and Red Hacker basketball.
Survivors include his great-grandmother Julie Yakima; paternal grandparents Kenneth and Betty Samel of Houghton Lake; maternal grandparents Orest and Carol Yakima of Oxford; his father, Ken Samel, Jr. of Prudenville; mother Cindy (Allen) Fleming of Grayling; brother Nathan Samel of Prudenville and Cheryl Samel of Prudenville; several aunts, uncles and cousins and special friends Kyle Thomas and Debbie and Rod Shock.
