Bunny Lou Shumate was born in Rantoul, Illinois, to Orben Ray and Jana Williams Shumate, while her father was stationed at the Chanute Air Force base. The family moved to California when Ray was transferred to Travis AFB in Fairfield, CA. From there they moved to Texas, where Bunny lived out her life.

In her early 20s she worked for Vassarette in Athens, TX.

In 1984 she married the love of her life, and had two children, one of which went on to give her 2 grandchildren.

She spent some years working as a substitute teacher and aide while her children were in school. She was part of the Band Boosters and helped raise money by working concession stands at the football games. She was very involved in her children's school experience. They were her pride and joy.

At an early age she became interested in genealogy. She worked on her family history for over 40 years, joining the TXGenWeb in 2000. While volunteering with TXGenWeb she maintained the Henderson County TXGenWeb website, winning county of the month and county of the year. She also was a volunteer for Find A Grave, contributing and maintaining over 1000 memorials, and a proud member of the DAR.

She was preceded in death by her father, Orben Ray Shumate, maternal grandparents, John and Gladys Lewis Williams, and paternal grandparents, Chester and Winnie Whitener Shumate.

She was a Christian woman and beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, niece and aunt. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
