Jay E. Abbott, 78, of Covington, Indiana, died October 4, 2021, at his home surrounded by loved ones for the days leading to his passing. Born April 22, 1943, in Collison, Illinois, to Howard and Eva Abbott, who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were his late wife Judy, his brothers John and Jack Abbott.

Jay married Linda Katcher Abbott on June 7, 2014. She survives along with his children Jay Paul (Charlene) Abbott, Regina Abbott Fite, Stephanie Katcher; grandchildren Travis Jay Abbott, Elizabeth Broussard, Craig Broussard, Andrew Broussard, Jacob Fite, Emily Fite; great-grandson Travis Jay Abbott II. He also leaves behind his siblings Gene (Barb) Abbott and Mary (Melvin) Schlueter, along with many dear nieces and nephews.

As a man of strong faith, Jay loved being a member of the Second Church of Christ in Danville. Beloved by the neighborhood kids and dogs, Jay was an avid outdoorsman and bowhunter. For many years Jay worked at Hyster as a welder and assemblyman. Later in life, he spent hours tinkering in the garage and loved rebuilding lawnmowers. As of late, he and his wife Linda enjoyed riding their side-by-side.

Jay left nothing unsaid and was always eager to help others. To the end, Jay sang everyone's praises, recalling all the good memories and things that made each person unique to him.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to everyone involved in Jay's care, especially Dr. Sodhi and his excellent staff.

Jay will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Park.
