Son of the Rev. Canon Lloyd Stewart Bruce and Jane Skene who were married on the 6th October 1863 at St. Michael's Church, Oxford, Oxfordshire, and grandson of Sir James Robertson Bruce, of Down Hall, Derry, Northern Ireland.
He was baptized on the 17th May 1868, along with his twin sister, Grace Gwendolen, at St. Luke and All Saints Church, were his father was the Rector.
The 1911 Census states that Rev. Bruce was the Rector of Binton, living at Binton Rectory, Warwickshire, with his sister, Grace Gwendolen Bruce.

The news of the death of the Rev. L. H. Bruce, Rector of Binton, came as a great shock. He was present at the meeting of the Missionary Council, less than a week before the day of his death. On Monday, March 3rd, he attended a Chapter meeting of his Rural Deanery at Alcester in apparently good health, and on his return home after tea sat down to rest, and in a moment was gone.
Rev. Bruce was a Corpus Christi, Cambridge man, ordained in 1892, and had worked for five years in Lancashire, for eight years at Hove, and been Rector of Binton for eighteen years. He was one of the best type of country clergymen, a quiet saint, loved by every one in the parish, and we can ill spare him. We deeply sympathise with his sisters and with his parishioners in their sudden loss. But for him, this quiet, painless passing, was a perfect end.

Kathleen Bruce, a sculptor, socialite, and sister of Rev. Bruce, who studied under Auguste Rodin, and whose circle of friends included Picasso, Isadora Duncan, and Aleister Crowley, married Captain Robert Falcon Scott (Scott of the Antarctic), at Hampton Court Palace, in 1908. In 1915 the Rev. Bruce organised the erection of the Scott Memorial Window (pictured left) in St. Peter's Church, Binton.
Rev. Bruce, who never married, died aged 55.
Kathleen sculpted the figure of Christ crucified (click on photos to view) that was placed on the cross on his grave in the churchyard. In 2014 the Bruce Cross was moved into the church and a simple wooden cross was placed on the reverend's grave.
There is a memorial plaque to Rev. Bruce in the church, it reads:-
