Dr. Martha J. Solomon, age 74 of Cookeville passed away Monday, September 13, 2021 at her residence. She was born May 31, 1947 in Douglas, Georgia to the late Chester and Delorice Day Wooten.

She received B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from University of West Florida. A longtime resident of Florida, she was a teacher at Plew Elementary in Niceville and was a member of Destiny Worship Center in Destin. She and husband Gerald moved to Cookeville in 2016 to be closer to family and have been members of Life Church.

Martha had a special presence about her. Her self-assured and positive nature lit up a room and endeared her to her family and friends. In times of need, she could be counted on for timely words of wisdom. She was an excellent cook and was talented at many forms of crafting from sewing to painting, drawing and making dolls.

Dr. Solomon is survived by her husband of 56 years: Gerald Solomon; son: Barry (Cynthia) Solomon of Tulsa, Oklahoma; daughters: Michelle (Matthew) Hahnart of Cookeville; grandchildren: Ashley, Rebecca and Elizabeth Hahnart; and by sisters: Linda Mobley and Gwen (Craig) Deen, all of Broxton, Georgia.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Wooten.

Funeral services were held Thursday, September 16, 2021 at the Cookeville chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home with Bro. Ronnie Malone officiating.. Interment followed in Cookeville City Cemetery.
