Funeral services for J.C. Ferrell, 86, of the Emblem community will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept 17, in Tapp Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Durwood Speed and the Rev. Cleatus Speed officiating
Burial will be in the Emblem Cemetery with grandsons serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Truett Peek, Bruce Peek, Gerald Prim, Sam Speed, Lester Glossup, Loyd Thomas, Forrest Lee Riddle, and Harold Deaton.
Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Tapp Funeral Home.
Mr. Ferrell died at 9:25 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 15 in Hopkins County Memorial Hospital, following a brief illness.
He was born in the Emblem Community on Dec. 21, 1907, the son of G.H. and Orline Buttry Ferrell. He married Ethel Etta Speed on Sept. 22, 1928, in Greenville. She preceded him in death on Aug. 14. 1968.
Mr. Ferrell was a farmer and rancher. He was a longtime member of Emblem Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Jerry C. Ferrell of Sulphur Springs; three daughters, Gertrude Mobley and Sally Williams, both of Sulphur Springs, and Betty McDonald of Dallas; two brothers, Homer Ferrell of Sulphur Springs and Cecil Ferrell of Mesquite; four sisters, Hazel Ferrell of Ridgeway, Carrie Parker and Mattie Hammonds, both of Sulphur Springs, and Beatrice Lundy of Dallas; 10 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Emblem Cemetery Association.
