G.H. Ferrell's Rites Conducted

George H. Ferrell, 82, retired farmer and cotton ginner, died at 5 p.m. Thursday at his home at Ridgeway.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Friday at the Emblem Methodist Church, with the Rev. L.E. Dickens and the Rev. Don Morris in charge. Interment followed in the Emblem cemetery. Grandsons served as pallbearers.

Mr. Ferrell was born Apr. 4, 1878 in Tennessee. He was married to Leota Buttery on Sept. 21, 1897, in Tennessee. He was a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, four daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Hammonds, Miss Hazel Ferrell and Mrs. Freeman Parker, all of Ridgeway, and Mrs. Travis Lundy, Dallas; seven sons, Mitchell, Mack, and J.C. Ferrell, all of Ridgeway; Smith and Homer Ferrell, both of Sulphur Springs; Grady Ferrell, Commerce; and Cecil Ferrell, Dallas; a sister, Mrs. Willie Frazier, Winfield; 30 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.

Tapp Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ridgeway Couple Sets Open House


Mr. and Mrs. G.H. Ferrell prominent residents of Ridgeway, will observe their 63rd wedding anniversary at an open house in their home Sunday afternoon, Sept. 25 from 3 to 5 o'clock. Friends and relatives are invited to call during these hours.

Mr. and Mrs. Ferrell were married Sept. 21, 1897 in Hawkins County, Tennessee. They have lived in Texas since 1901 most of the time in and around Emblem and Ridgeway. Mr. Ferrell is a retired ginner and farmer. They are members of the Baptist Church of Emblem.

The couple has eleven children, who will be with them for the happy occasion, as will most of their 31 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.

Their children are Mitchel Ferrell, Ridgeway; Smith Ferrell, Route Three; Mack Ferrell, Ridgeway; Homer Ferrell, Route Three; J.C. Ferrell, Ridgeway, Route One; Grady Ferrell, Commerce, Route Two; and Cecil Ferrell, Dallas; Mrs. D.M. Hammond, Ridgeway; Mrs. O.F. Parker, Ridgeway; Miss Hazel Pearl Ferrell, Ridgeway, and Mrs. T.C. Lundy, Dallas.

G.H. Ferrell Ridgeway, celebrated his 80th birthday Sunday, April 13. A son, Mack Ferrell, also has the same birthday.

Lunch was spread in the back yard and grace was said by Travis Lundy.

Those present to enjoy the delicious food were: Mr. and Mrs. G.H. Ferr ell, Hazel and Mitchell; Mr. and Mrs. Homer Ferrell and family; Mr. an d Mrs. Calvin Prince; Bobby and Juanita Reagan; Mr. and Mrs. Mack Ferr ell and family; Donald Wayne Ferrell and Martha Hggins, Dallas.

By the time the tables were cleared away it began raining so all went inside for a visit.
