Jessie Melvin Hooten

Funeral services for Jessie Melvin Hooten, age 68, of Sulphur Springs, are scheduled for 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 14, 2008, at Tapp Funeral Home Chapel. Russell Morris will officiate.

Burial will follow services in the Posey Cemetery, with Keneth Hall, Bill Thomas, Toby Clayton, James Pickle, Shorty Coleman, Jimmy Potts, and Ned Ball serving as pallbearers. Nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, October 13, 2008, at the funeral home.

Mr. Hooten passed away on October 10, 2008, at Sulphur Springs Health and Rehab Center. He was born on December 31, 1939, in Sulphur Springs, the son of Jessie A. Hooten and Vera Fredrick Hooten. He married Katherine Ferrell in Sulphur Springs, on October 23, 1961. She preceded him in death in October of 2000.

Mr. Hooten was a truck driver and was employed by Hinton and Hinton Milk Haulers for many years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958 thru 1961. In honor of his service, the Hopkins County Military Coalition will conduct military graveside burial rites, marthing the 500th time, honoring their brother in arms.

Survivors include: sons, Michael Hooten and wife Patricia, and James Fite; daughters, Becky Boyd and husband Stephen of Sulphur Springs, and Sharon Moore and husband Brandon, of Brashear; brothers, Freddie Hooten and wife Brenda of Wylie, Travis Hooten and wife Tresia, and William Hooten and wife Donna; a sister, Mary Beadles and husband Gene, all of Sulphur Springs; grandchildren, Paul Mikie Hooten and wife Patty, Misty Partin and husband Trevor, Raynie Hooten, Jessica Boyd, Jasmine Boyd, James Michael Jordan and wife Katie, Katelin Gumpert, and Savannah Self; and three great-grandchildren, Cody Hooten, Alyssa Partin, and Jace Jordan.

Mr. Hooten was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Delbert Hooten.
