Gomaz C. Myers (nee Gomaz Catherine Frederica Buggs) was born in Brunswick, Georgia on January 18, 1909, to James Samuel and Lula duBignon Buggs. At an early age she accepted the Lord as her Savior and was baptized at First African Baptist Church of Brunswick. She was educated at Risley Elementary School and St. Athanasius High School, both in Brunswick. She continued her education at Atlanta University, during which time she also took summer courses at Tuskegee. Following graduation, she taught first grade in the Brunswick School System.

On June 10, 1933, Mrs. Myers married her long-time sweetheart, Consuelo M. Myers and moved to Philadelphia. She decided to give up her teaching career in favor of a full-time career as wife and mother. Their three daughters, Gloria, Victoria (deceased) and Cheryl could always count on her to be a moving force in everything they did. She served as President of the Home and School Association in their schools, Vacation Bible School teacher and never missed a performance or event in which their daughters participated.

Mrs. Myers was equally supportive of her husband's work as well. She became a member of each church and choir where he served as organist and choir director, John Wesley United Methodist church and A.M.E. Union Church, both in Philadelphia. As a church member, she held several administrative offices and often assumed the responsibility of Women's Day chairperson. She played an important role in all church projects.

When her husband retired as church musician in 1986, the two of them joined St. Matthew United Methodist Church in Trevose, Pennsylvania, where their daughters had been members for years. "Grandmom" enjoyed supporting her eight grandchildren through all their church and school activities, and could always be seen smiling in the audience.

In her later years, as "Mother of the Church", Mrs. Myers was often called upon to pray and to give words of wisdom to families during a baptismal service. She used her telephone to keep in touch with church members who were unable to attend church because of illness or some other reason. She credited her longevity to her love for her God, her family, and her church family, and their love for her.

Mrs. Myers went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 3, 2000. She was predeceased by a sister, Honorine M. Buggs Douglas. She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters and their husbands, Gloria and William Lawrence and Cherryl and Andre Funches; a son-in-law John Harper, five granddaughters, Stephanie Lawrence White, Nicole and Dea Dorsey, Tamara Harper and Melissa Harper Jones; three grandsons, Christopher and Stephen Lawrence, and Robert Dorsey, Jr.; two grandsons-in-law, Reverend William Milton White, Jr. and Kenneth Jones; three great grandchildren, Victoria and Jacob Jones, and Alexander Dorsey; three nieces and their husbands, Barbara and Richard Owens, Juanita and Porter Boyer and Jean and Stewart Hughes; and numerous other relatives and friends.
