She was born April 28, 1918, in South West City, Mo., the eldest child of Lee and Oma (Robison) Hammer. The family moved to Wyoming on French Creek when she was an infant. She was raised and educated in Encampment.
At the age of 15, she began work as a cook at a "tie camp." In 1934, she married Vern Nylander and they had three children.
In 1945, she married Irven Rose and they had three children.
She married Ira J. Wiant in 1958 and they resided in Encampment until 1986 when they moved to Wheatland; living in Encampment in the summers and the winters in Wheatland. Beginning in 1999, they lived in Wheatland full-time.
She ran a grocery store, gas station, stove shop, and had a wild game processing business for several years at Encampment and also had a mail route for eight years.
She was a member of the Rebekahs, served on the F.H.A. Board in Rawlins, and was on the Town Council in Encampment. She enjoyed hunting and fishing and was the first licensed woman outfitter and guide in Wyoming. She loved telling stories, raising cattle and sheep, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter, Judy Windmeier and husband of Wheatland; two sisters, Nellie Rose of Pavillion and Jeanette Romios of Encampment; 11 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her three husbands, Vern Nylander, Irven Rose, and Ira J. Wiant; five children, Lloyd Nylander, Karl "Corky" Nylander, Joyce Nylander, Irven Lee Rose and Keith Rose; three brothers, Robert "Mike", Howard "Pat", and James Hammer; and a sister, Maxine Dettinger.
Interment will be in the Wheatland Cemetery.
