Robert "Bob" Mercer passed peacefully at home in Richardson, Texas on Tuesday, August 17, 2021. Bob was born in Sherman, Texas on September 12, 1939, to Jeff and Edna Mercer. He graduated from Sherman High School in 1958 and was a proud Bearcat. He attended East Texas State College now known as A&M Commerce. He met the love of his life Julia Woodall in May of 1959 in his mother's living room. They knew it was forever love by the second date and married on September 2, 1960. This September 2nd they would have celebrated 62 years of adventures together. Their first daughter Julie was born in June of 1965 in Sherman. In February of 1966 they settled into a wonderful life in Richardson where he worked for Collins Radio for 28 years. In 1969 their second daughter Sherry was born making their family complete.

Bob had a playful heart and a strong work ethic. He was known to many as "Boots" which his oldest grandson Rob named him. He adored his family, neighbors on the 1200 block of Cherokee, the class of 1959 Bearcats and his community because no one was a stranger to him. He was a craftsman, and many will cherish his woodworking pieces. Bob loved Hucks catfish and the picture the family shares shows his delight!

Bob will be cherished forever by his loving wife Julia; his daughter and son-in-law Julie and Ron Tearney of Germantown, Wisconsin; two beloved grandsons Rob Tearney of Farmington Hills, Michigan and Ryan Tearney of Germantown, Wisconsin; his daughter and son-in-law Sherry and Tommy Swanson of Carrollton, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents Jeff and Edna Mercer.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Diabetes Association in Bob's memory. He navigated diabetes for over 40 years and would appreciate supporting those walking the same challenging journey. https://www.diabetes.org/donate/donate-memorial
