Elizabeth "Betty" Anne Kraft, 97, of Houston, Texas, died Tuesday, August 17, 2021 in Lake Jackson, Texas. She was born at home on May 3, 1924, in Hampton, Virginia to the late Robert Stephen Turnbull and Anne Fredericka Dorsey.
Betty Anne graduated from Hampton High School in 1941, entered business school, and worked at Citizens National Bank for 9 years until she married. She married her high school sweetheart, Christopher C. Kraft, Jr., on September 2, 1950 at Emanuel Episcopal Church in Hampton, Virginia. The couple was married 69 years, until Chris' death on July 22, 2019.
Betty Anne and Chris lived in Hampton until the family moved to Friendswood, Texas in 1962, due to Chris' job in the space program. Chris was quick to give his wife credit for his success, and she was a proud supporter of his every achievement, from becoming NASA's first Flight Director, and ultimately becoming the Director of the Johnson Space Center. Her children were blessed by her selfless, unconditional love, and were grateful for her never-ending devotion to them.
Betty Anne was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her mother-in-law, Vanda Suddreth Kraft, her father-in-law, Christopher C. Kraft, Sr., her granddaughter, Stella Blue Kraft, her brother and sister-in-law, Robert Gordon and Janie Bloxom Turnbull, and her brother Carter Watkins Turnbull.
Betty Anne is survived by her son Gordon Turnbull Kraft (Robin) of S. San Francisco, California, and their son, Christopher R. Kraft, also of S. San Francisco, California; her daughter Kristi-Anne DuPont (Glenn) of Lake Jackson, Texas, and their sons Colin and Steven DuPont; six great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson; niece, Suzanne Hope (Lawrence) of Crozet, Virginia, and nephew Stephen Turnbull (Beth) of Norfolk, Virginia.
Betty Anne was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Episcopal Church in Nassau Bay, Texas, where a memorial service will be held on Friday, August 20, at 1:30 PM, officiated by the Rev. Mike Stone.
