Asuncion "Lola Baby" Cruz Aben
September 23, 1931 – July 22, 2021
Obituary of Asuncion "Lola Baby" Cruz Aben

Asuncion Cruz Aben at 89 years old passed away peacefully on July 22, 2021. A loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Justiniano Aben. Born in Malaybalay, Bukidnon, Philippines, she was called Baby, being the youngest among the girls of 10 siblings.

She majored in Home Economics at Centro Escolar University which amplified her passion for sewing and baking. Asuncion quickly learned to capitalize on these skills by creating and selling quilted pencil cases, make up kits and taisan/mamon cakes at local stores. She also became an avid baker of numerous wedding and birthday cakes for friends and relatives. Let's not forget her famous honeybaked ham which we all love. When she worked for the Ministry of Agriculture, she engaged in various government projects teaching homemakers crafting and cooking methods to help them with their livelihood. Some of which includes the making of nata de coco from scratch, unique candied tomatoes and kamias (surprisingly good), flower making, and paper mache among other things. Her later career as a Nutritionist developed her affinity for healthy meals and balanced diets. She was a collector of all sorts of recipes, a tenacious advice giver, and a lively storyteller. She lived a creatively meaningful life, touching and inspiring others to be creative, artistic and enterprising.

Asuncion was a devout Catholic who was known for being a prayer warrior as she prayed for the health, success, and protection of everyone she could. She made sure to be at mass weekly or watched television mass 2 to 3 times if she was unable to attend. She loves making rosaries and giving it away to whoever visits her, including prayer books

She is survived by her brother Dr. Jesus Cruz; her 4 daughters Angelica Fojas, Victoria Mora, Maria Estavillo, and Marina Aben; 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

She will be greatly missed by her family and friends who take solace in knowing that she is in heaven united with her parents, siblings, husband, all the departed, and our Creator.
