Steve was born in Indianapolis to the late Edward J. and Dorothy (Shumate) Smith. He graduated from Mooresville High School with the class of 1977. Steve married Candice Lewis June 16, 1978. Not only a minister preaching the gospel since 1980, Steve was the genealogist in the Indiana Room of the Danville Public Library. He was a member and minister of the Shelbyville, IN. Church of Christ, and a member of the Avon Optimist Club, Danville Rotary Club, and the Buick GS Club of Indiana.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years Candice, daughters, Rachel (Kevin) Rosenbaum of Lafayette, Cori (Adam) Fuller of Alexandria, KY., sons, Adam (Erica) Smith of Burton, OH., Caleb Smith of Lexington, KY., 12 grandchildren, sister, Vicki (Steve) Wainscott of Decatur. IN., and a brother, Mark Smith of Indianapolis.
