The burial card for Kate Griffin gives date of death as 5/15/1864 and date of burial as 6-24-1864. The stone looks like it says "Died May 15,1856" which makes me wonder if she died elsewhere and perhaps was born and died in the year 1856. The plot was purchased in 1864, and perhaps she was moved then.
(I believe that Kate Griffin was born Jan.1 1856 and died May 15, 1856. Her father Edward W. Griffin purchased a plot in the old City Cemetery on May 20, 1856. (see the Hidden Truths website Hidden Truths Cemetery Lot Owners)
This Graceland plot was purchased by Edward on June 2, 1864. It would make sense that the headstone gives her correct dates of death and the date on the cemetery card is a typo.)
Also, I believe that the stone, which looks like it reads "Kate daughter of D. W. & E. M. Griffin Died May 15 1856 [ae?] 5 mos 15 ds[?]" actually reads "daughter of E. W. and F. M. Griffin" This would match the information on the burial card and make sense as the daughter of Edward W. Griffin and Frances Merritt Griffin (nee Hawkins) The stone is the oldest in the plots for this family and very worn.
These adjacent plots of Griffins belong to brothers. This plot is Edward W. Griffin. The adjacent plot just to the south was purchased by Homer V. Griffin.
