Dorothy V. Darland, 92, of Rock Island, Ill., passed away Tuesday July 6, 2021 at her home.

Visitation will be 4:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. Friday, July 9, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island, with a service following at 6:30 p.m. (The funeral service will be live-streamed and may be viewed at wheelanpressly.com/live-stream-Rock Island). A graveside service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday July 10, at Agency Cemetery, Agency Iowa. Memorials may be made to the Rock Island County Genealogical Society or to the family to be designated later.

Dorothy Velma Bailey was born October 25, 1928 in Wapello County, Iowa, a daughter of Clyde and Wanda Davis Bailey. She graduated from Ottumwa High School, Ottumwa, Iowa. Dorothy and Richard C. Darland were united in marriage on August 2, 1947 in Rock Island. He preceded her in death on July 12, 2009.

Dorothy and Richard owned and operated Darland Cleaning Service in Rock Island for many years. In earlier years, she worked at Desaulniers Printing Company.

She enjoyed researching family history, canvassing cemeteries and attending Rock Island County Genealogical Society meetings and events. She was an active member and past officer of the Rock Island County Genealogical Society. Dorothy also had been an active member of 15th Avenue Christian Church, Rock Island, helping with their rummage sales, music camps and church library.

Surviving are her daughter, Shirley Wiklund, Rock Island; sons, Kenneth Darland and Dennis Darland, both of Rock Island; grandsons, Kevin N. (Kayleigh) Wiklund and Andrew (Elizabeth) Wiklund; great granddaughter, Alexandria Bailey Wiklund; and numerous nieces, nephews and their families.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband; son, Curtis in infancy; son-in-law, Kevin R. Wiklund; parents; brothers, Francis, Robert and Rex; sisters, Fern, Faye and Zelma; and a brother and sister in infancy.
