Preceded in death by his wife, Nana Alvin; survived by his daughter Mary Nichols and sons, Philip and David Alvin.
He spent over 40 years with the United Steelworkers Union as educator and editor of Steel Labor News.
He was appointed as the labor representative to several State advisory boards by governors Pat and Jerry Brown and was vice-president of the western division of the AFL-CIO.
