Anderson Lee Abernathy was born March 2, 1945 in Chicago, IL to the late John and Theoda Abernathy.

He was the youngest of four children.

He served in the United States Army and worked various jobs until he became disabled.

On September 2, 1978 he married his beloved wife Doris Williams. Anderson was affectionately know as Andy, Fat Daddy, Granddaddy and DJ Abernathy.

Throughout his life he loved sports especially baseball, bowling and horse racing and even when he could no longer physically participate in these activities, he enjoyed them virtually with his family such as the Nintendo Wii and playing his favorite board game Scrabble which he won frequently. He was an avid card player and loved to dance.

Anderson's favorite pastime was family gatherings during the holidays and spending time with his grandchildren.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of forty-two years, Doris. Siblings: Ersie (Nathaniel) Motton, the late Dolores (late Bill) Motton, the late John (late Joan) Abernathy. Sister-in-laws: Diana Pothel, Patricia (late Lorenzo) Jones. Sons: Darnell (late Annette) and Willie (Santrece) Steele. Grandchildren: Jonathan, Jeremy, Kevin, Darnell Jr., Danielle, Denzell, Daniel, Chanelle, Janelle, Sireon, Kylen, Nytiva, Neelyn, Renwick Jr. Great-grandchildren: Nalah, Camren, Tristian, Marcell Jr, Micah, Kylen Jr. Godfather to Gina. A host of loving nieces and nephews and relatives.
