Donald L. "Don" Nugen, 76, of Seymour, formerly of Freetown, died at 4 a.m. Monday, Oct. 29, 2007, at his home following a brief illness.
Mr. Nugen was a member of Freetown Church of Christ, where he had been pianist for many years. He also had played piano for Messenger Quartet and was active in Jackson County Christian Men's Fellowship for several years.
He was a former safety director for various trucking companies, was one of the first board members for Hoosier Christian Village in Brownstown, and was a veteran of United States Air Force, discharged in 1964.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Freetown Church of Christ with Larry Tedrow officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Winklepleck-Weesner Funeral Home in Brownstown and from 10 a.m. until service time Friday at the church. Military graveside rites and burial will be at Freetown Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hoosier Christian Village Auxiliary.
Born in Westerly, W.Va., Dec. 19, 1930, Mr. Nugen was the son of Henry and Hazel Sims Nugen. He married Shirley Glass on Oct. 23, 1964, in Columbus.
Survivors include his wife; children, Jeff Nugen (and companion Karen Ballard) of Richmond, Ky., Lisa Marie Nugen of Canoga Park, Calif., and Les (Amy) Nugen of Franklin, and, also considered a son, Ray (Kathy) Dyas of Clearspring; a brother, Albert (Doris) Nugen of Columbus, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Alice Nugen of Oak Hill, W.Va.; grandchildren, Justin, Mindy, Michelle, Miki, Christopher and Steven; and great-grandchildren, Keylene, Landon, Chloe, Kyra, Carolyn, Landen, Lakin and Jaxson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bobby Nugen.
