Singer. He was best known for his late-1960s hits, "Hooked on a Feeling" and "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head." As a teenager, he sang in a church choir, then joined the musical group The Triumphs. In 1966, he, along with the Triumphs, released the album "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry," which featured a hit cover of the Hank Williams song of the same name. He went on to release a solo album by the same name. In 1968, he released the song "Hooked on a Feeling," which hit number five on the charts. A year later, the classic Western movie "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" featured Thomas singing "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head" written by the famous Burt Bacharach, & Hal David, which went on to win the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1969. It also hit number one in the charts in January of 1970. He would go to release other songs including "I Just Can't Help Believing" and "(Hey Won't You Play) Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song," which turned out to be his second number one hit. In the mid-1970s, he expanded into the area of gospel music and from 1977 to 1981, earned a Grammy Award for his gospel recordings. His career waned in the 1980s, but it received a small boost with his hit theme song "As Long as We Got Each Other" for the television series "Growing Pains." He continued to sing, along with writing two books and starring in two movies, for the rest of his life.
