Lee Stoneking passed away at his home in Lowry City, MO, on Saturday, December 30, 1989 after a brief illness. Mr. Stoneking spent most of his life in the rural Clinton and rural Blairstown areas as a farmer. After the death of his wife, Ruby Ruth Akers Stoneking, he married Thelma Berdina Chandler, and thereafter they made their home in Lowry City. Born Lee Roy Stoneking, the son of Frank Burgess and Mary Ellen Stewart Stoneking, and one of 11 children, he grew up loving music and was known to all as one of the best old time fiddlers around, often donating his services for various benefit shows and for the entertainment of the sick and shut-ins. Mr. Stoneking was the father of 10 children and step-father to three children. He was preceded in death by one daughter, two sisters and four brothers. He is survived by his wife, Thelma B., of the home; five sons, Ervin Emmitt, Fred Eugene, Nelson Lee, Carl Elbert, and Robert Emuel; four daughters: Mable Fay Lewis, Shirley Ann Brown, Mary Jane Milligan, and Judy Joy Merline. Also surviving Lee are four sisters, Leona Cockrum, Birdie Suse, Sarah Bradshaw and Jewel Moree. Funeral services were January 3 at Vansant-Mills Chapel. Burial was in the Salem Cemetery, Norris.
