Jeffersonville woman dies in I-64 crash

A Jeffersonville woman died along an interstate in Floyd County on Thursday night after the motorcycle she was driving left the roadway, police said.

Cpl. Todd Bailey with the New Albany Police Department said 46-year-old Marilyn Marcum was traveling with a group of three other motorcycle riders along westbound Interstate 265 when the pack merged onto eastbound Interstate 64. Her motorcycle reportedly left the roadway and struck a guardrail. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses told police that Marcum didn't appear to lose control of the motorcycle but merely "drove it off the road," Bailey said, adding that he was unsure of any medical conditions from which Marcum might have suffered.

Bailey said the New Albany Police Department and the Indiana State Police are still investigating the crash, but no other vehicles appear to be involved and no criminal charges are expected.

Bailey did not immediately provide information as to whether Marcum was wearing a helmet or any other safety gear.
