Robert was one of seven air crew members on Lancaster 1 ME 720 [Code-AS-X] which took flight from its base at RAF Station Kirmington in Lincolnshire, one of 323 'Lancs' and 1 Mosquito aircraft which set out on night operations over Friedrichshaven in Germany. Robert's aircraft was shot down by a German night fighter ME 720 and crashed near Hitzkirch-Hamilkon in Switzerland.
He is remembered on a family marker here at Park Lawn Cemetery but he is buried at Vevey Saint Martin's Cemetery in Switzerland. Family links are attached to the burial memorial.
