Astoria, IL - Marie (Kays) Payne Klosterman, 90, of Rock Falls, formerly of Astoria, died at 3:35 p.m. Monday, Dec. 14, 1998, at Claremont of Lee County in Dixon.

Born Sept. 15, 1908, in Astoria to Frank Pierce and Madella Prather Kays, she married Henry G. Payne on Jan. 3, 1958, in Chicago. He died May 3, 1977. She later married Donald "Doc" Klosterman Sr. on Oct. 27, 1997, in Mount Carroll. He survives.

She also was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Also surviving are two stepsons, Henry "Jack" Payne Jr. of Lafayette, Ind., and Donald Klosterman Jr. of Sterling; one stepdaughter, Nancy Phillips of Sterling; six step grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren.

She was a member of Washington Second Street Methodist Church in Oak Park.

An elementary school teacher for 45 years, she taught in Adams, Fulton, Cook and Schuyler counties, retiring in 1972. A graduate of Western Illinois University, she advanced her education with courses at Rosary and Concordia colleges in River Forest, Quincy College, the University of Illinois and the University of Arkansas. She was a member of Kappa Delta Pi.

Graveside services will be at Astoria Cemetery.
